Have you ever had a misunderstanding that blew up into something bigger than it should have? In May 2014, all Meghan wanted to do was get to her car, sounds simple enough right?

Some of the cast is: Elizabeth Banks as Meghan, James Marsden as Gorden, Gillian Jacobs as Rose, Sarah Wright as Denise, Ethan Suplee as Officer Dave, Bill Burr as Officer Walter and Willie Garson as Dan Karlin.
KZLA’s news reporter, Meghan Miles, has decided to go out with her friends to have a little fun. A few drinks and some laughs later Meghan meets a nice guy named Gorden and finishes out her night of fun. Unfortunately, when Meghan tries to go home, she quickly realizes her car is nowhere to be found, which means, neither is her cell phone, money nor ID. Now Meghan not only has to get back clear across town, but also get to work in time for her news anchor interview, which is the opportunity she’s been waiting for.
When I saw Banks had a new movie out I was all about catching it. She’s a really good actress and has had a pretty good run of movies that I’ve enjoyed, like Zack and Miri Make a Porno (2008). Well, Banks didn’t get a home run on this one, but it was still an enjoyable flick.
Now, if you’ve ever watched films like Ready to Rumble (2000), Mr Deeds (2002), or Without a Paddle (2004), then you’re familiar with Brill’s work. Which means you also know that some of his films can be a little distasteful, with crude jokes or humor. Not all of his work, but it’s not a stretch or surprise when you come across it in his films. This one is definitely one of those flicks, not a lot, but it is there. So if you’re not a fan of crude humor, you might want to pass on this one.
The story that writer and director Steven Brill came up with was good and pretty entertaining. What I liked about it was it’s kind of a real life deal. We’ve all had one bad thing happen that cascaded into a day filled with disaster. Not to this extreme I’m sure, but that’s what made the movie funny yet still relateable. Unfortunately, as funny as it is, the movie isn’t that great. The pace stays constant the entire time, which in this case, wasn’t a good thing. Even with all the jokes, the movie rides comfortably on the average line. Although they try to have a few shocking moments, sadly, they just blend in with the flow of the film. Yeah I laughed cause things were funny, but were the jokes and gags top notch? No, not really.
The cast was good, although I wish Marsden had more of a part to play, but he brought his usual charm when the camera hit him. Now because of the storyline we spend most of our time following Banks on her walk. That means everyone else is only seen in short bursts through the film, with no real stand out moments or performances. Banks is good, but she’s just not strong enough to carry an entire comedy on her own.
As good as the movie is, it’s not worth running out to the theater to catch it. Although, it will make for a great addition to the night when you’re looking to grab a pizza and a rental.
